Questions about laminate

How is laminate different from LVT or engineered wood?

Laminate has a printed wood-look image under a hard, clear wear layer, on a fibreboard core. It is usually the most affordable hard floor option and clicks together in the same way as LVT, but it is not waterproof, so it is not offered for bathrooms in this preview.

Why is laminate sold by the pack?

Like LVT, laminate is boxed in fixed-size packs rather than cut from a roll. The pack-area rule rounds your floor area up to the next whole pack, so the number on screen is what you would actually need to order.

Does laminate need an expansion gap?

Yes, laminate expands and contracts slightly with temperature and needs a small gap at the walls, usually covered by a beading strip called scotia. That is priced separately by the metre of skirting it runs along.

Can laminate go over underfloor heating?

Many ranges can, up to a stated maximum temperature, but this varies by product and is confirmed at the measure.
