Stairs and landings

Stairs and their landing are treated as their own job, never folded into a flat-room area calculation, because winders, nosings, the top step and the landing itself all take a fitter's time that a simple rectangle does not.

A runner length is calculated from the rise and tread of each step, with its own minimum waste allowance to account for pattern matching and pile direction, which always runs down the flight rather than across it. Fitting is priced per step with a job-level minimum, because a very short flight still takes a meaningful amount of a fitter's time to do properly.

Darcy measures each step individually at the home visit, including any winders at their widest point, and confirms the exact runner length and price before anything is booked in.
